VCT Introduces Versafoil

Versatile Card Technology is producing plastic cards designed to change the look of a card enhancing colored images by using a metallized film. QualTeq Inc. owns the patented process and has licensed VCT to produce the card under the name “Versafoil.” Card construction consists of white PVC covered by a glossy overlay foil. This metallized film provides a mirror-like finish that is perfectly printable for thermal transfer printers or offset printing technologies for personalization. The metallized laminate is produced in a vacuum metallizer by spraying liquefied aluminum onto a clear film. “The cards functionality is not altered but the graphic appeal of the card attracts savvy consumers,” said Nicholas Cooney, President of VCT, “shiny surfaces create a an opportunity to capitalize on the illusion of hi-tech, easy recognition, and monetary value. Credit and financial transaction cards are available from VCT with full-color graphics in a broad selection of finishes including the new Versafoil image. The Versafoil card contains another level of security as the foil is difficult to duplicate. The Versafoil card can accept all components of a transaction card including magnetic stripes, signature panels, personalization, and security holograms because the foil is beneath the inks that then host a standard clear PVC overlay. To avoid scratches, the cards are shipped in specially prepared boxes.
